Jan Vertonghen said he is looking for more than a one-year contract extension with Tottenham.

“My [longer-term] future has not been a distraction. I’m very aware of my age. I feel fairly young and it doesn’t distract me. I’m very ambitious and I feel I’ve got a couple of good years left in me," said the 32-year-old centerback.

Mauricio Pochettino said that any new deal was out of his hands.

“I am open to everything. But it’s like I said about Sissoko. That is a deal between the club and him [Vertonghen] and his agent. We’ll see what happens," said the manager.

Josep Maria Bartomeu and Gerard Pique are set to meet after Pique accused the Barcelona board of encouraging media to publish articles discrediting the squad.

Pique made his accusations following Barcelona's 2-0 win over Getafe over the weekend.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is reportedly being groomed to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Guardiola's contract runs out in 2021. Van Bronckhorst, last of Feyenoord, is said to have taken an insider role within the club with an eye towards eventually taking over the top position.

Guardiola said last week that Mikel Arteta should replace him as manager.

Josef Martinez took to Instagram to explain that he will not be playing for Venezuela's current manager Rafael Dudamel.

Martinez was not included on Venezuela's most recent 32-player squad.

Dudamel has been the Venezuelan manager since 2016.

Martinez added that he hopes to one day return to the national team.

The Spanish FA may promote Ansu Fati to the U21s following an impressive string of performances for Barcelona.

Fati was rumored to play for the side during the U17 World Cup next month, although Barcelona have protested his inclusion.

The RFEF are now considering promoting Fati to a higher level, with an eye of putting him on the Olympic team next summer. 

Bayern Munich are threatening to stop releasing players to the German national team should Manuel Neuer get replaced by Marc-Andre ter Stegen as the team's starting keeper.

Uli Hoeness said that he "will never accept a change of guard" and that if Joachin Low starts ter Stegen over Neueur, Bayern will "no longer release players for the national team."

Low responded to the threat, saying that "something like that won't have any influence on me."

Santiago Solari is reportedly close to becoming the first manager of Inter Miami, league sources told Sam Stejskal of The Athletic.

Though the source also adds that there are other candidates still in play.

Solari took over from Julen Lopetegui as Real Madrid manager last season.

Diego Valeri could leave the Portland Timbers at the end of this season due to a contract dispute, league sources told Sam Stejskal of The Athletic.

The 33-year-old is in the final year of his contract paying him $2.42 million.

Valeri reportedly wants a two-year, guaranteed DP salary.

There are two MLS teams that are currently willing to give into Valeri's salary demands, according to The Athletic. 

Barcelona are pressuring the Spanish Football Federation over the national team availability of Ansu Fati.

The 16-year-old is likely to represent Spain at the U17 World Cup next month.

Ernesto Valverde has pushed back at the idea, saying that he wants Fati to train with Barcelona's first team.

Barcelona reportedly want Fati available for El Clasico on October 26th. The U17 World Cup runs from October 26th through November 17th. 

Barcelona expressed interest in signing Megan Rapinoe after she stated her preference to end her career with the Spanish side.

"I think we're in a position to be able to sign that level of player," said Barcelona director Maria Teixidor. 

The 34-year-old Rapinoe said last week that she wanted to end her playing career in Europe.

Barcelona's women's team turned professional in 2015.
